UCLA Quarterback Contest Loses an Entry When Bobby San Jose Decides to Transfer

And then there were three. Bobby San Jose, expected to compete with Jimmy Bonds, Ron Caragher and Bret Johnson in spring drills for the UCLA quarterback job vacated by Troy Aikman, is leaving school to pursue his college football career elsewhere, the school announced Friday.

No specific reason was given for San Jose's decision. It's also not known where the junior plans to transfer.

Meanwhile, the Bruins held their first official spring scrimmage at the Rose Bowl Friday. Bonds, a sophomore, completed 5 of 7 for 69 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown to tight end Charles Arbuckle during the 85-play scrimmage. Bonds also threw an interception. Caragher, a senior, completed 4 of 10 for 51 yards. Johnson, a redshirt freshman, was 6 of 9 for 99 yards.
